In a Dental Emergency?

There are multiple ways to damage your smile. You could sustain a dental trauma or bite down on something hard. Or you may experience swelling or pain as the result of an untreated cavity or infection. If you need emergency dentistry in Pasadena, Maryland, call Sunrise Dental Studio at 410-647-3595 for an appointment with our dentist. Dr. Jennifer Yau can see patients for same-day and walk-in visits.

A dental emergency is any situation that requires immediate attention from a dentist to resolve. These include, but are not limited to, problems such as:

  • Cracked, broken, chipped or fractured teeth
  • Lost crowns or other lost or damaged restorations
  • Severe toothaches or other tooth pain
  • Partially or completely knocked-out teeth
  • Damage to the soft oral tissues, such as the tongue, cheeks, gums and lips

If you experience a dental emergency, please contact our team as soon as possible. Many dental emergencies are time-sensitive, and we will make arrangements for you to come in and receive treatment the same day as your emergency. We will also provide you with instructions on what to do until you can arrive at our office for your exam and receive treatment.

If you experience head or neck trauma, or believe that your injury may be life-threatening, please call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room, even if you also need dental treatment.

What qualifies as a dental emergency?

Dental emergencies include severe toothaches, broken or knocked-out teeth, and infections. If you experience any of these, contact us immediately.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

If you knock out a tooth, try to place it back in the socket without touching the root. If this is not possible, keep it in a container of milk or saliva and contact us immediately.

How can I relieve a severe toothache before I get to the dentist?

Rinse your mouth with warm water, use dental floss to remove any trapped food and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid aspirin directly on the gums as it can cause burns.

What should I do if my dental filling or crown falls out?

Keep the area clean and avoid eating on that side. Contact us as soon as possible for an emergency appointment to replace the filling or crown.

Is it possible to prevent dental emergencies?

Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene, wearing mouthguards during sports and avoiding hard foods can help prevent many dental emergencies.
