What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, removable aligners to straighten teeth. This modern take on braces features a system of clear aligner trays that are worn at all times throughout treatment with the exception of removing them for eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth. The trays are custom fitted to the teeth, making them virtually unnoticeable when laughing, talking, and eating with other people. Patients receive a sequence of trays, each of which is slightly different than the one before. The aligners provide a slight resistance to the teeth, gradually shifting them to their ideal placement. With Invisalign®, adults and teens can achieve the smiles they’ve always wanted without feeling self-conscious about the mode of treatment.

The Procedure

Schedule a consultation with our dentist. During this pre-treatment examination, we evaluate your teeth to see if Invisalign is a good solution for you. If you are a candidate we update X-rays, take photographs, and impressions of your teeth. A series of custom-made, clear aligners will be made for you. The total number of aligners will vary depending on the complexity of your case. The aligners will be individually numbered and will be dispensed to you by your doctor with specific instructions for use. You wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them for eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth. Each set of aligners gradually shifts your teeth closer to your end goal. As directed by your doctor, every one to two weeks you will switch out your current aligners for a new set. With each new set of aligners, you may feel a little pressure for the first few days as it advances your teeth to the next treatment stage. Treatment typically takes 3 months to a year depending on the complexity of your case. At the end of your treatment you will have a stunning new smile that will be maintained with Invisalign retainers.
